Early Life and Education 

Sheena was born in Chandigarh, Punjab. But, she grew up in Kolkata. Sheena went to The Lawrence School in Sanawar, Shimla. She studied arts there. She also learned dancing and karate. She is also trained in playing the violin.

Modeling and Pageants 

Sheena started her career as a model. She won the “Miss Kolkata” title. Sushmita Sen chose her to compete in “Miss India Universe – I Am She”. In this competition, she won the “I Am Voice” title. This was for her ability to connect with the audience.

Acting Career 

Sheena’s acting career began in 2011. She starred in the Malayalam film “The Train”. Jayaraj, a National Award-winning director, directed the film. Sheena acted opposite Mammootty, a big star. The movie was a success. People liked Sheena’s acting.

After “The Train”, Sheena worked in Bengali films. She acted in “Mukti” and “Patralekha”. Buddhadev Dasgupta, a National Award winner, directed these films1. In 2014, she was in “Ant Story”15. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki directed it1. She was nominated for Best Actress at film festivals in Dubai and Shanghai for this role.

In 2016, Sheena acted in “Justice”. Bappaditya Bandopadhyay directed it. In 2017, she was in a Hollywood web comedy called “Words”. She played a journalist. Jim Meskimen, an American comedian, was also in it.

In 2019, Sheena was in a Hollywood film named “Nomad”. Taron Lexton, an award-winning director, directed it. In 2023, Sheena finished shooting for “Sant Tukaram”1. She played the main role opposite Subodh Bhave1. Aditya Om directed the film.

Human Rights Work 

Sheena Chohan is also known for her work in human rights. She is the United for Human Rights Ambassador for South Asia. In 2019, she received the Human Rights Hero Award at the United Nations. She is the only Indian actress to win this award.

In February 2023, Sheena received the Human Rights Hero Award again at the United Nations in New York1. This was for teaching more than 36 million people about human rights1. In October 2023, Sheena gave a Tedx talk on human rights. She spoke to 40 million people.

On June 8, 2024, Sheena received The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the President of the United States, Joseph Biden. This was for her work in human rights education.

Sheena believes that people should know their rights. She wants human rights education in schools in India.
